Flurry.com recently published an interesting article about mobile app loyalty and frequency of usage. It can be read in full here; but in summary highlighted the challenge faced by any mobile app developer - that of cutting through the ‘noise’ of over 75,000 apps that are now available in the iTunes app store alone.
‘They use or you lose’ is the motto. Retention and usage frequency are key and the research they conducted across 2,000 apps that use Flurry for analytics offers an insight in to the app categories that are doing well.
SharePrice uses Flurry too, so I thought it would be interesting to plot how our app fairs against the category averages and indeed the app universe as a whole. The result, below, confirms why our app has become so popular and as of today sits in the top 5 of the UK finance category.
This , without any of the publicity that Apple has so generously provided to the Bloomberg app (TV and press advertising, regular editors’ pick in app store etc), and more recently the ATM Finder which is , in my honest opinion, so shockingly inaccurate it shouldn’t be endorsed by anyone - just read the feedback in the app store.
Anyway, I digress, it’s just frustrating to see Apple only prepared to align themselves with big brands such as Bloomberg and Mastercard in the finance space. Perhaps it’s just an ego thing, but when the app surpassed Bloomberg in the store last evening (yes, I check twice a day), my smile was broader than it has been in a while. Let’s hope it stays there - it is after all far better
Here’s the chart. In summary, great retention, great usage frequency. Onwards and upwards.
