Web based live chat support

How many times has web based live support chat worked for me? None. It’s clearly something that’s very hard to get right and do well.
An example of my (last?) attempt today:-
tim has joined the room
Hi, I am sara. How may I assist You?
tim says: Hello. Are you human?
sarah says: yes
tim says: I have a query regarding order 12977
<software disconnects>
tim has joined the room
Hi, I am sara. How may I assist You?
tim says: yes, hello again
sara says:jumail
tim says:what happened there, I seem to have got cut off
tim says:what does jumail mean ?
tim says:anyway, I’m missing an item on order 12977
sara has left the room

At that point I reach for the phone and get no response. How about Sara, she’s free surely? Oh no, she’s left the room.
Rubbish.

Note for the Ample / iii IT department:
This morning 3rd October 2007 I find that your website is infected with spyware / adware called Avenue A,Inc. My anti-spyware software is kicking it out but as Avenunue A, Inc comes up every time I click on a new iii page I have not the patience to continue with Ample / iii website. please fix it.
Thanks
Geoff Davies
Hello Geoff,
In the interests of transparancy I’ll post your complaint.
The “Avenue A” cookie is delivered via advertising banners to allow advertisers to confirm your click and subsequent usage on their site. This is fairly typical of many banners. A search for “Avenue A” in Google will point you at verious information resources that may or may not provide a solution based on your personal comfort levels.
I suspect we’re one of many sites serving banners that your software package in its current configuration is complaining about.
Without knowing which one you’re using I can’t recommend ways to reduce it’s level of warnings.
